What does giving back mean to you?
For me, the power of giving back is all about empowering other individuals on their journeys. When I donate to charities worth supporting, I specifically picture how the money is going to take people that much closer to where they need to go.
It’s like we’re all climbing our own mountains. The difference between making the summit and suffering at the foothills is that extra bit of food, that one walking stick, that bottle of water. Sometimes we need that donation. And we’re all depending on somebody to give us what we need to make it through sometimes.
I believe we all deserve to reach our own personal summits. And I’m also determined to show my children that giving freely should be a way of life. That’s why I donate 10% of my earnings from affiliate marketing on this blog to charities worth supporting.
The Food Bank is a network of non-profit organizations that accept donations of food and other basic necessities and distribute them to people in need. This is probably a charity you’re familiar with. But did you know that in addition to serving 850,000 Canadians every month, Food Banks Canada is researching long-term solutions to hunger?
The Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned raptors, i.e., eagles, falcons, hawks, ospreys, owls, and vultures. I especially appreciate their practice of visiting classrooms to teach children about the importance of these birds of prey in our environment.
As anybody who has been adopted knows (and I’m one of them), the journey to bringing that child home is a totally overwhelming one for both the parents and the child. The Adoption Council of Canada supports all sorts of people in the “adoption constellation”, including adoptees, birth families, and adoptive families. They provide crucial resources, education, referrals, and support.
I’m a VERY proud sports mom. So I love what Kid SportBC does: remove financial barriers for kids in need who want to participate in sports. Every child deserves access to the benefits of playing sports, which range from better health to better grades.
So…what does giving back mean to you? The power of giving back is undeniable. It teaches our children to care. It inspires our community. It encourages and empowers people who really need it. And it can change your life and theirs.
I encourage you to do what you can to lift others up. Give to charities worth supporting — it can be any charity that has a special meaning to you. Give to inspire others to give. And anytime you shop my affiliate links, know that 10% will go directly to one of the charities listed.
BIG LOVE!!
