Kombucha is a fermented beverage. So is wine. I guess it’s no wonder I became a fast fan of Hoochy Booch Kombucha when I first tried it in 2014.
Hoochy Booch was founded by Kristin Zerbin. Once upon a time she was a tired, bloated and moody woman who wanted to make a change. Kombucha was her change.
It became her mission to create healthy guts and happy humans. And I’m personally all about it!
So what exactly is kombucha? It’s a fermented green or black tea that, like yogurt or sauerkraut, is full of the healthy bacteria that promotes gut health. It is made using tea, sugar and a bacterial culture called a SCOBY: Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast
The sweet tea and culture are left to ferment anywhere from 7 – 30+ days. During this time the culture consumes and digests the sugar and tea, converting it into vitamins and minerals and probiotics (healthy bacteria). That’s science, people!!
Yes, there is sugar in kombucha. But during the fermentation process the sugar is converted into good stuff like enzymes. Your body loves enzymes.
I encourage you to read the label: there are no “extras”. I know that there is fruit juice added to other kombucha products (because I am a label reader) and that, my lovelies, is extra sugar. Nobody needs that.
Back to probiotics, let’s talk poop for a second. Probiotics are so helpful for relieving constipation. And that’s just one of the benefits of kombucha. As it happens, it also promotes energy and supports your body’s natural detoxification processes.
But there are a lot of kombuchas on the market. So why do I love Hoochy Booch?
Let’s just start with the name. Come on, doesn’t it just scream “good time”?
I also love that Hoochy Booch’s booches are organic and the flavours are derived from organics teas, herbs and botanicals.
I’ve tried other kombuchas and they do not compare. The flavours aren’t as developed and the “sweet spot” of the sweet plus sour combo that I enjoy so much isn’t there.
Hoochy Boochy flavours also make it so versatile. How about using it as a mix for your next gin cocktail? Or vodka; yeah, I like vodka. Perhaps an ice cream float floats your boat? I did that with their Tumeric Tonic and it was so good!
Cons? It’s hard to think of cons for a product I have zero problems consuming regularly. Oh hang on, I thought of two: can we have more on taps and retail locations please?
And yes I do have a favourite Hoochy Booch and it’s Blue Valentine!
I always enjoy interaction and conversation. Throw me a note in the comments below and let’s chat!
